Unschooling

"There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent. "
 - Mahatma Gandhi

My education philosophy is simple: children love to learn, you just have to provide them with the right learning environment. I believe in creating an "organized unschooling" environment for my children. What do I mean by that exactly? Children learn best when they are left to their own inquisitive nature. A child wants to learn; they crave knowledge and understanding. It is the educators fault when the child is not learning, not the child's. Provide the right learning environment and a child will learn. Provide the child with the tools to succeed and they will succeed.

You can begin raising your children in this manner at any time in their lives. However, it is easiest (and best) to begin as early as possible. Provide your children with books, proper toys, nutrition, love, and support, and they will do the rest.

I'm only now beginning to work towards developing an unschooling environment for my children, but they are still very young and not quite school-aged. With this blog I plan on sharing all that I discover and learn in my journey of being an unschooling parent. A great deal of the material I will share will be for younger ages, but I will try to add things on occasion for older children.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments. I love hearing other peoples ideas and stories of what worked/didn't work for them.
